Europe Is Dressed for Celebrations (VIDEO)
By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau/ Moldova.ORG/ -- What can be more beautiful than the old buildings of old Europe shining in the lights and Christmas ornaments and gingerbread, smelling of mulled wine and Christmas tree? Maybe just the very Christmas can.
All the capitals of Europe during this period, on 15 November to 24 December, pleasant crowded and roamed of tourists and locals looking for the most beautiful Christmas decorations. Christmas fairs have opened their doors to all interested persons and lovers of the Christmas Holidays.
Christmas fairs have a tradition of centuries. The first document which recorded the fair is dated in 1434 since the times of Frederick of Saxony and took place in Dresden in the first Monday after Christmas. The origins of these fairs are older, in the 14th century in Germany, when they were called "Saint Nicholas Fairs". During the Reform, they changed their name to "Fairs of Baby Jesus" in order to diminish the cult of Saints and a privileged image of Jesus. These traditions have been perpetuated until nowadays and were popularized in the whole of Europe, and yet lose the religious dimension, but retaining the charm.
Some of the most beautiful Christmas fairs are carried out on the streets and in markets of the cities Nuremberg, Bern, Prague, Strasbourg, Brussels, Vienna, Salzburg, Stockholm and Copenhagen. The atmosphere prevailing in those cities during these fairs is one of fairy-tale and magic.
Walking among the beautifully adorned and decorated stalls you feel how the frost bites your cheek, making them red, but this is the charm of the winter holidays. You must know that the frost is not the only who bite at these fairs, it do also the quite exaggerated prices. For example, a toy, a reindeer or bear, costs about 10 euros apiece, but if it sings then it passes over 20 euros.
But you can go only to see and to wander on the streets. Even if you won't go home with some toys and souvenirs, the most special gift for you remains in your souls, and for a big bag than impressions and memories toy won't pay anything.
