EU visa centre in Moldova to issue Belgian visas after 1 October
Starting from 1 October 2009, Moldovan citizens will be able to apply and receive short-term visas for Belgium at the EU Common Visa Centre at the Hungarian embassy in Chisinau.
Last week, Finland also announced plans to join the centre starting 1 October.
The EU Common Visa Centre was opened in April 2007, and so far it has issued visas for Hungary, Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Slovenia, Sweden and Luxembourg.
Switzerland and Greece are expected to join the EU Common Visa Centre in early 2010. Croatia and Slovakia are also holding talks on joining the centre.
Through January-August 2009, the centre issued about 5,000 visas, of which 37 per cent for Hungary, 25 per cent for Austria, 11 per cent for Latvia, 9 per cent for Slovenia, 8.5 per cent for Sweden, 5.6 per cent for Estonia and 4 per cent for Denmark.
