Dogs rule; humans drool in race
Dogs have a chance to see whether their two-legged companions can keep up or eat dust in New York's first Doggy Duathlon next summer.
The animals and humans will compete in a 1,500-meter swim in the Hudson River and a 10K run around Central Park next July, the same time as the New York City Triathlon, The New York Post reported Thursday.
Brad Thornton, a champion swimmer at New York University, says he and Bean, a friend's Boston terrier, will do some light jogging in Central Park, adding he thinks he has the inside track.
"As long as she sees some squirrels that she can chase after, it's not going to be a problem," he said.
Dogs will be outfitted with life jackets in the water. On land, they'll be treated to sports drinks and biscuits, and will have the services of a pet shrink.
"The dog is the athlete," organizer John Korff said. "The human is just along for the ride." // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
