Demonstration against the Russian occupation of Bessarabia

Man waving the Moldovan flag

Over seven thousand people gathered in Central Square of Moldova’s capital of Chisinau to mark 200 years since the Russian Empire occupied the territory between Prut River and Nistru River, today the Republic of Moldova.

Many Romanian and Moldovan flags have been waved today afternoon, the people chanting unionist messages and calling for reunification with Romania.

Another rally took place at the same time, same place, but organized by members of “Moldova’s Patriots” Party, who were against the first demonstration. No altercations have been reported.

The demonstrators walked towards the Russian and Turkish Embassy to Moldova, following a great ‘national-patriotic manifestation’ in front of the Summer Theatre of Chisinau.
