Council of Europe's information bureau holds charity action in Chisinau
An unusual charity action for children takes place today at the Chisinau-based Information Bureau of the Council of Europe. The action fits within the European values promoting campaign "Europe is more than you think".
The head of the bureau, Lilia Snegureac, told journalists that the charity action is organized for children of the Chisinau-based placement centre "Small Group Homes", which shelters 21 disabled, abandoned, physically and sexually abused children. Snegureac noted that the children were painting, after which they would receive gifts and sweets.
According to Snegureac, children's works are going to be sold and the money will be redirected to another placement institution "Casa lui Gavroche", which is home to street children. Each painting will be sold at about 300-500 lei (18-25 euros), Snegureac said.
The action "Colours of Europe- Colours of Moldova" also aims at familiarizing children with such notions as "Europe", "rights", "values", "opportunities", Snegureac said.
The manager of the placement center "Small Group Homes", Ana Gobjila, said that some children suffer because of the adults' neglectful actions. She added that the children were temporary sheltered at the placement centre, part of them being subsequently integrated into their biological or extended family.
