Coast Guard Video: Fl. 1549's Emergency Landing in the river
It was a U.S. Coast Guard video, the only one so far, shown the emergency landing of the airliner into the Hudson River near Manhattan, N.Y., around 3:31 p.m. Jan. 15, 2009. The video takes 10 minutes: the first two minutes there is nothing unordinary, then one can see the plane skid into the water and within 3 minutes the first boats were there to assist the survivors of the US Airways' flight 1549.
The U.S. Coast Guard was one of the many agencies to respond to the scene. Sector New York launched a fleet of small rescue boats and the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Ridley. Guardians handed out life jackets to passengers and rescued 35 people, bringing them to staging areas at the Chelsea Piers. Coast Guard choppers also responded.
