The stray dogs in the municipality of Chisinau will be sterilized. Under a decision made by the Chisinau City Hall, the stray dogs will be neutered between July 15 and September 30. The sick dogs will be euthanized.

The announcement was made by the deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu at the City Hall’s meeting on July 14. He said that the municipal authorities have signed a relevant cooperation agreement with the animal protection NGO “Laica”.

According to the head of the Sanitary Engineering Division Tudor Maniv, the measure forms part of a pilot-project aimed at solving the problem of stray dogs. If good results are achieved in Ciocana district of Chisinau, the project will be extended so that it covers the whole municipality of Chisinau.

Five teams will work in the mentioned period in the town, mainly near kindergartens, schools and building sites. The sterilized animals will be kept in special places for several days until the wounds heal.

The Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked the persons involved in such activities to show compassion. He demanded that the expenditure estimate be presented by the end of this week.

There are about 30,000 stray dogs in the municipality of Chisinau at present.//REPORTER.MD
