Chisinau hosts fair of European partnership for Moldovan civil society's organizations

About 150 non-governmental and donor organizations from Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) participate in a Fair of European Partnership for Moldovan civil society's organizations in Chisinau on 15-16 June. Eighty eight organizations represent Moldova, of which 30 are based in the Transnistrian region.

The deputy head of the European Integration Department of the Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), Eugen Caras, said that this fair fits into Moldova's aspirations to join the European Union and cover the path towards integration as quickly as possible. Caras said that the civil society is likely to be involved in a future project, which would be eventually named EU-Moldova Forum. He added that this implies preliminary discussions with Moldovan business people about prospects for creating a comprehensive free trade zone with the EU, as well as other dimensions, which would aim at promoting Moldova's cause in the European state.

State Minister Victor Bodiu said that Moldova's government contributed to involving the civil society in the elaboration and monitoring of policies in order to ensure the transparency of the decision-taking process. At the same time, this partnership will be better developed by involving the civil society in providing services of public interest, implementing social programmes, etc., Bodiu stressed.

Sorin Mereacre, the head of the East-European Foundation which is a co-organizer of the event, said that the fair is meant to initiate dialogue between Moldovan and EU NGOs in order to promote Moldova's interests in European institutions. He added that this will helpjoin the EU more swiftly. Mereacre said that, in Moldova, there are opportunities for non-governmental organizations to involve in activities with state institutions, such as the concept of cooperation between the parliament and the civil society, the National Council of Participation.

The Fair of European Partnership for Moldovan civil society's organizations is organized by the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), the East-European Foundation and the Promo-Lex Association, with the financial support of important international organizations, such as the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation, the United States Agency for International Development and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
