A national survey of Canadians' summer habits and opinions gave thumbs-down to men's thongs but some acceptance of nude sunbathing or skinny-dipping.

Of 1,536 people polled for Malibu Rum by Leger Marketing, 75 percent said a man wearing a thong bathing suit was the No. 1 thing they didn't want to see this summer. The Malibu release said thongs beat out men's back hair and tie-dyed apparel by a landslide.

As for nudity, 10 percent of respondents said they plan on sunbathing in the buff to avoid tan lines, while 40 percent said they planned some skinny-dipping this summer, the report said.

Calling in too sick to work on a sunny Friday was supported by 33 percent of respondents, the release said.

Kirsten Devitt, Brand Manager for Malibu Rum, said in a statement the statistics were surprising and amusing.

Sure it's taboo to admit skipping off work to enjoy a cocktail but I would never have expected it to be more taboo than swimming naked, she said.
