Brawl in Moldovan Parliament

Moldovan lawmakers brawling on the Parliament\'s hallway

Moldovan MPs brawled and used swear words on Thursday before the Parliamentary session started. The story begins after Victor Selin, the head of the Social-Democrat Party (PSD) was denied access to the Legislative by the speaker of the Parliament Marian Lupu.

Selin, who is not a lawmaker, spoke at the Parliament’s tribune two weeks ago, although he was not permitted to do so. Because of this infringement, the President of the Parliament denied his access to the institution.

Trying to go in the Parliament again, Victor Selin was barred from entering the building by the security guards. Some Communist deputies took him by the arm and pulled him inside, even though the guardians were resisting. In the end, the Communist lawmakers succeeded in bringing the Social-Democrat leader inside the Parliament.

Political expert Igor Botan said during a talk show that the hearings at the Parliament are public. According to him, the speaker’s decision is “abusive.”

“He cannnot deny the access to sessions of Victor Selin,” analyst Botan said. “I believe that Marian Lupu’s behavior is abusive.”
