Blocked accounts of local administration

The organization of the April 5 legislative elections in Chisinau is impeded because the accounts of a number of institutions, including the district heads’ offices and the General Finance Division, remain blocked and the money cannot be used.

The statement was made by the deputy mayor of Chisinau Mihai Furtuna at Monday’s meeting of the City Hall.

For his part, the head of Botanica district Vladimir Guritenco said that though the expenditure estimate for the elections was presented three months ago, the district head’s office cannot use the money. “If the situation does not change, the polling places will not be ready in time,” Guritenco said.

The Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said that the local public authorities will inform today the Central Election Commission about this. He urged the officials in charge of organizing the elections to negotiate with the economic entities so that they could pay them later for their services.

The calendar plan for organizing the parliamentary elections was approved last week.
