Birth rate growing in Moldova
In 2008 - 39 018 babies were born in Moldova - by 1 045 (2.8%) more against 2007. On the average the birth rate accounted for 10.9 newly born babies per 1 thousand residents.
According to the National Bureau for Statistics, 51.5% of the newly born babies were boys, whose ratio was 106 to 100 girls.
The number of children, born outside the legally registered families decreased from 23.3% in 2006 to 22.3% in 2008, but, in experts’ opinion, this is a considerable figure. The number of babies, which were born by women under 20 years decreased from 13% to 10.5%.
The average age of women, who became mothers for the first time was 23.1 years. In rural area this indicator was 22.2, in urban area – 24.4.
As Infotag has already reported, 41 948 people died in Moldova in 2008 – by 1 102 (2.6%) less than in 2007. The mortality rate decreased from 12 people per 1 000 residents to 11.8. Alongside with this, the main reason for death in Moldova remain cardiovascular diseases – 56%, tumors – 13.4%, gastric diseases– 9.6%, intoxication and traumas – 8.5%, respiratory diseases – 5.9%.
The number of Moldova’s population, calculated on the basis of the data on the birth and mortality rates, accounted, as of January 1, 2009, for 3.567 million people without taking into consideration Transnistria – by 5 thousand people less than last year.
According to the data of the 2004 census, the Moldovan population constituted 3.389 million people. According to the All Union census of 1989, the population of the Republic of Moldova accounted for 4.3 million people, including 700 thousand – in Transnistria.
