Anti-administration protests continue in Moldova
Anti-government protests continue in Moldova. People from around the country took to the Main Street in Moldova’s capital of Chisinau. Among the organizers of the demonstration on the National Square were Iurie Rosca, the leader of Defense of the Constitution and Democracy Committee, Alexei Tulbure, the former Ambassador to the UN and Council of Europe, and Anatol Plugaru, the former head of the Information and Security Service of Moldova, informs Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty office from Chisinau.
They demand the resignation of the governing Alliance for European Integration. According to the media source, the people came from the northern parts of the country (Riscani and Drochia districts), as well as from the southern part (Cahul city).
The Alliance for European Integration considers that the organizers of the demonstration are striving for re-elections.
The Republic of Moldova has an acting president since April 2009. The Parliament wasn’t able to elect the head of the state after several attempts. Some political analysts consider that the political stalemate will end if the president of the country would be directly elected by the citizens.
