America's Most Wanted Gangster James 'Whitey' Bulger is captured
Elena Vnorovscaia/ Chişinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- James 'Whitey' Bulger is a former leader of the Winter Hill Gang, local criminals based in South Boston, Massachusetts, group.
He served as a top-level informant for the FBI on his gang's main rival, the New England Mob, when bringing down Mafia was the top priority for FBI. This person is also a participant in the FBI's 10 most wanted list for his alleged role in 19 murders.
Finally James 'Whitey' Bulger has been captured this Wednesday evening near Los Angeles after living on the run for 16 years. The gangster was arrested by the FBI at an apartment complex in Santa Monica after a period of surveillance.
An 81 years old man will appear at a federal court in LA facing such federal charges as murder, conspiracy to commit murder, narcotics distribution, extortion and money laundering.
Prosecutors said he went on the run 16 years ago after being warned by John Connolly Jr, an FBI agent who had made Bulger an informant 20 years earlier. Connolly was convicted of racketeering in May 2002 for protecting Bulger and his cohort, Stephen 'the rifleman' Flemmi, also an FBI informant.
During his years on the run, Bulger was in a run with his longtime girlfriend, Catherine Greig. Cops say Bulger's girlfriend has been on the run with him for eight years. Now she is arrested too.
The interesting fact is that Frank Costello, character from the very popular crime thriller film “Departed”(directed by Martin Scorsese), was based on James Bulger.
