A Trip to the Heart of the Earth

By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- For today get ready for a trip to the… heart of the earth, the hell. But don’t be afraid, it will be an imaginary, fantastic and amazing trip.

Today’s protagonists will be some rocks from the Western Mountains. Do you wonder what can be so special in some mountain rocks? The strangeness consists in the fact that these vertical rocks, according to geologists, have not the origin from these mountains, but they were brought from somewhere else and fixed there. And here begins the mystery.

It is said that many years ago, some monks would have caught a devil and he would have asked the Lord of Darkness to save him. And so a hole had been opened in the stone to the heart of the earth, in the hell, and the devil crept up there and fled. The monks would have been advised and, with the power of the prayer, would have brought the rocks and closed up the hole. And near it, they would have built a monastery to guard that nobody to open the hole that leads to hell.

But old locals don’t know if there ever existed a monastery.
However, there happens strange things; some think that is the devil’s work, others think that it is a simple coincidence. The cliffs are climbed by alpinists and there are not rare the accidents.

The animals avoid the place of rocks, although there is a very tempting grass. It is like something would alarm them and would move away from the rocks. The villagers who didn’t take account of superstitions had to suffer.
A 43-year villager has a mysterious history about the rocks, because of that he could go to the lunatic asylum. He claims that when he was a 10 years old child, he would be gone on the hill to pick mushrooms.

At a moment, he heard some strange noises in the bushes, went there and found an entrance in a cave. He entered the cave, where was light and were some rooms and an altar. “… the next moment I heard a sinister scream and something had raised and fell on me.”

“I fainted and when I returned in feelings, I was on the other side of the hill. I think that’s why people didn’t know anything about the monastery, because it was built underground, not outside. Those monks or knights, or what else they were, were wiser than us.” Today, the man don’t know where is that place.

Are there all the local people undergone to general hallucinogenic effects? It’s hard to believe, but the existence of the Devil is no less credible.

Meanwhile, the rocks remain to be an interesting and very nice place of interest that must be visited by the tourists.

The distance from Chisinau to the Rocks of Ampoita is 580 km.
