A Destination with Scent of Roses

By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- Today I have the pleasure and the opportunity to invite you to a location not only romantic, but also fragrant, both literary and figurative. And it is not with a simple scent, but with the rose fragrant. The Roses Park of Timisoara is one of the most romantic places in Romania.

Walking on the embalmed and splendid arranged alleys of the lonely park, your thoughts will be assaulted by the most pleasant fantasies and memories.

According to a monograph about Timisoara, the Roses Park was founded in 1934, from the contributions made by the wealthiest ladies in the town, who competed with each other in bringing from abroad the most distinguished varieties of roses. In 1942, the park appears with the name Rosary of Queen Mary, but after the Second World War it was destroyed, being rebuilt in 1953–1965, when it reached to 1.200 varieties of roses brought from homeland and abroad.

Today there were preserved only 600 species of roses. But being so, it remained of an exceptional beauty. There impresses not only the fragrance with which are greeted the visitors, but also the thoroughness with which there are arranged all the species of roses, trees and shrubs.

The life in the Roses Park doesn’t flow monotonously, regularly there taking place various manifestations, such as Festival of Opera and Operetta, which is full of concerts, operas and operettas: “The Merry Widow”, opera for children “Puss in Boots” or opera “Nabucco”, where the admission is free.

To raise the fame of the old times park, on its territory is organized “Rose Day”.

The rose perfume and the melancholy of classical music can create an ideal atmosphere for a relaxing weekend. Let yourself be carried away to Timisoara.

The distance from Chisinau to Timisoara is 796 km.
