Security forces clashed Sunday with about 2,000 right-wing activists who tried to construct new outposts in the West Bank, in violation of the law.

Four arrests were reported.

"We will keep building communities and redeeming territory in the land of the Patriarchs,” Arye Yitzhaki, one of the movement’s leaders, told Haaretz.

The activists were attempting to construct five illegal settlements to protest recent government discussions about evacuating existing illegal outposts, Haaretz said.

Two of those arrested allegedly caused minor injuries to a policeman, while the other two allegedly violated a police order.

The activists were forced to walk to the area near the Efrat settlement where the clashes took place after Israeli defense forces barred vehicles.

A defense force spokesman said the government will continue to evacuate settlements based on its own assessments.

Right-wing activists said they plan a major march to Homesh, a settlement forcibly vacated in 2005.  // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
