Washington DC shrugged off another dose of snow Wednesday, waiting for snowstorm on Super Bowl weekend. Roughly 5 inches of snow blanketed the District of Columbia and surrounding region (see photos).

The fluffy, wet snow began to fall Tuesday evening and continued into the early morning. Most roads were either just wet or covered in a thin layer of slush. But the majority of suburban schools were either closed or opened late.

Weather forecasters say the region could get snow again as early as Friday afternoon.

The U.S. National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch starting Friday morning for the entire Washington, D.C. region. Forecasters are predicting snow will fall much of Friday and into Saturday evening. Accumulations above 12 inches are expected, but there is a chance the storm may leave as much as 20 inches (51 centimeters) of snow in the Washington-Baltimore area.

Washington was hit with about 20 inches on Dec. 19, the weekend before Christmas.
