The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence Campaign is carried out in Moldova for the fourth consecutive year, with the financial assistance of the OSCE Mission to Moldova. The theme of the campaign this year is “Human Rights for Women - Human Rights for All”.

Judith Hale, Senior Anti-Trafficking and Gender Advisor of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, told a news conference that almost every fourth woman in Moldova is subjected to violence. Therefore, the campaign is aimed at changing the violent behavior and attitude and at forming a nonviolent relational culture between genders and in the family.

Ludmila Catlabuga, representative of Winrock International and coordinator of the campaign, said that the campaign will include roundtable meetings, seminars, training courses, TV programs, broadcasting of TV and radio spots. The campaign closes on December 10, when it is celebrated the International Human Rights Day.

A Day of Worship dedicated to the victims of human trafficking will be held in most of the churches on December 7.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence Campaign was launched by Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991. The campaign links violence against women and human rights, emphasizing that all forms of violence, whether perpetrated in the public or private sphere, are a violation of human rights. Over 2,000 organizations from 154 countries have so far participated in the campaign. In Moldova, the campaign has been organized since 2004.
